Nationals Success

In mid-Summer attention turned to the Nationals, historically the "main event" of the Autograss calendar. Club members made the long haul North to Yorkshire Dales for the Mens Nationals, and then the relatively short journey to the Severn Valley Track in Herefordshire for the Ladies and Juniors.

The club claimed Class 4 as its own, lifting both the Mens and Ladies titles. Neil Corbett and Kathy Canning bringing the silverware home for Evesham.

Neil had to work hard, but once he hit the Front, no one could touch him as his pace and consistency helped to build a cushion. Neil can now justifiably claim to be one of the most experienced and successful Class 4 racers in the country - the 2003 title being his 3rd in the class.

Kathy thoroughly deserved her title, having lead all of the attempts it took to get the Ladies Final to the finish. She remained calm and composed as accidents repeatedly brought out the red flags, and when the race finally ran to the Chequers she had produced a dominant performance.

Ladies Class 6 produced our 3rd Champion. Juliet Holloway stormed to the front of the pack in the first lap of the final, and the H&T Waste Recycling Clio never looked likely to be beaten.

Evesham's only Junior representative at Severn Valley was Martin Canning. Martin is fast establishing himself as a very competitive Junior Driver, and had outstanding results in his 4 heats to qualify for the B final. In a style we are becoming familiar with, Martin wasn't going to settle for second, and whilst making a strong challenge for the lead, dropped 2 places to eventually finish 4th.
